Private lesson policy
Lessons are billed at $115.00 per month. This monthly payment guarantees you or your child have a lesson at their set day and time 46 weeks a year and two masterclasses a year which are anywhrere from 90-120 minutes in length.
. Fees are not reduced for any reason EXCEPT when starting after the first lesson as a new student.
Monthly fees are due on the first lesson of the month. We accept cash/check/creditcards.
Fees not received by the 8th business day well incur a $10.00 late fee
Books must be paid for within the month they are received.
Makeup policy & Bad Weather
We cannot be responsible for lessons missed by the student. The only guarantee of a lesson is on your scheduled day/time. . We are currently one of the few lesson studios that still offers makeups as a courtesy, and on a first come first served basis once a quarter. Makeups will now be offered the last Sunday of each quarter with a sign up sheet in the waiting room. Makeup lessons that are canceled are not rescheduled .
Regular Studio Closures (part of the 48 per lesson year plan) are NOT made up.
In the case of inclimate weather, please phone the studio at 203-265-1500. If the studio makes the decision to close or cancel lessons due to teacher illness or bad weather lessons will be madeup as quickly as possible and will not affect the one makeup per quarter rule.
Waiting Room Etiquette
Please remind your child to wait in the waiting room prior to their lesson. The big room is not for playing in while lessons are in session. Food is permitted in the waiting room, please dispose of your trash in the restroom. We also remind parents that dropping off a child more than 10 minutes prior to their lesson or not picking up promptly is stressful for the child, and makes for a less than productive lesson.
Student Practice Policy
Private lesson students are required to practice. Taking lessons for taking lessons sake only is discouraging to the child, parents and teacher. Students who repeatedly do not practice will be given a 30 day written warning, and if improvement is not made will be removed from our schedule. Students who are repeatedly unprepared, disrespectful or rude will be dismissed with no refund of monies.
Summer lessons
Lessons with Keys & Strings are a year round event. Please understand that if you make the choice to take the summer off, your lesson time will not be held. Only families who continue lessons through the summer, or choose to continue to pay for lessons throughout the summer are guaranteed their school year time held. The studio will work around summer schedules as makeups this time of year are easier to plan for. We will allow one add'l makeup during the 8 week period of July/August to accomodate summer trips. You are maintaining an educational slot on your teacher's schedule, and practice and lessons year round are for the benefit of the student. Please compare this to your child's school studies. Schools send home packets of math work and reading lists to maintain the level your child was in when they left for summer holiday. It is discouraging for children who have not maintained their level of study in ANY form (reading, sports, music) to have to take a step back in September to relearn what they've lost.
Families who leave the schedule for a month or more and wish to return to their regularly
scheduled school year spot will need to pay a monthly fee of $60.00 to guraantee that
their spot is held.
